ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) recovered 5.4 tonne of drugs worth more than Rs 9.11billion in 14 raids throughout the country. The force also claimed to have arrested 10 drug peddlers and seized two vehicles.
According to the ANF sources, the seized drugs include 4,558 kilogramme of opium, 812 kilogramme of morphine, 28.2 kilogramme of charas, 4.58 kilogramme of heroin and 750 gramme of amphetamine. The raids were carried out in Attock, Lahore, Haripur, Peshawar, Karachi, Chagai, Qilla Abdullah and Pishin.
According to details, acting on a tip-off, the Quetta ANF conducted a raid and seized 2,678 kilogramme of opium near Sheen Ghar in district Pishin. It was destined to be transported to Iran via Mashkhel.
In another operation, the Quetta ANF seized 1,880 kilogramme of opium from an orchard in Killi Shadozai area of Qilla Abdullah district. The contraband was to be smuggled into Iran via Taftan.
In a similar raid conducted in Killi Station, Chaghi district, the Quetta ANF seized 812 kilogramme of morphine concealed in an underground tank.
Meanwhile, the Karachi chapter ANF intercepted a rickshaw (D-12-06401) near Passport Office in Saddar and recovered 12 kilogramme of charas. The force also nailed a peddler identified as Arshad Rasool, son of Muhammad Afzal, a resident of Karachi.
In another raid on Super Highway near Baqai Morr, the ANF arrested Tahir Zaman, son of Noor Zaman, a resident of Karachi along with10 kilogramme of charas.
Similarly, in another raid near MCB Khurshid Plaza, Industrial Estate Hattar, Haripur, the force nailed Bagul Jan, son of Rehman Uddin, a resident of Mardan district and recovered 1.2 kilogramme of charas from his possession.
In Peshawar, the ANF team apprehended a passenger Shaheed Khan, son of Mohabat Khan, a resident of Kurram Agency at Peshawar Airport who confessed to having swallowed capsules filled with heroin. Later on, 66 heroin filled capsules weighing 350 gramme were recovered from his stomach. The accused was trying to board a Shaheen Airline flight NL-723 to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the force intercepted a Toyota pickup near Pishtakhara Chowk and recovered five kilogramme of charas. A man namely Sahib Gul, son of Arman Gul, a resident of Khyber Agency was also arrested.
In another case, the interception of a passenger Sartaj Ali, son of Said Rehman, a resident of Malakand led to the recovery of 105 heroin-filled capsules from his stomach. He was trying to travel to Abu Dhabi through Shaheen Airline flight NL-756.
Similarly, the force also recovered 119 heroin-filled capsules from a passenger Naveedullah, son of Amarullah, a resident of Bajaur Agency. The accused was trying to board Shaheen Airline flight NL-786 to Dubai.
Another woman passenger Javeria Awan, daughter of Muhammad Ghulam and resident of Peshawar was nabbed at the airport. The force recovered 690 gramme of heroin concealed in a box containing ispaghol husk and 750 gramme of amphetamine concealed in her trolley bag. She was boarding Shaheen Airline flight NL-456 for Abu Dhabi.
At Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, the ANF arrested a passenger Azhar Iqbal, son of Rehmat Iqbal, a resident of Gujrat and recovered 2.89 kilogramme of heroin from him. He was trying to travel to Greece by Emirates Airline flight EY-242.
Meanwhile, the Lahore ANF intercepted a parcel at DHL Office on MM Alam Road and recovered 150 gramme of heroin concealed in a flask thermos.
In Rawalpindi, the ANF arrested Muhammad Akhtar, son of Mirza, a resident of Attock with 500 gramme of heroin. The arrest-cum-recovery of the contraband was made at Ghar Sheen Bus Stop near Hassanabdal
