JAKARTA: The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has established cooperation with Japan’s Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI) to address coastal degradation and port development in Indonesia. BPPT said that coastal degradation is one of the issues being faced by Indonesia, besides the issue of inter-islands logistic distribution, which include port management.
Wahyu Widodo Pandoe, BPPT’s Director of Maritime Industry Engineering Technology Center revealed a number of points highlighted in the memorandum of understanding, among others, coastal degradation prevention study and Subang port study.
President of PARI Shigeo Takahashi asserted that the cooperation is expected to bring benefits for both countries. “In a larger scale, we also expect the cooperation outcome to be applied not only in Indonesia and Japan, but also across Asia,” Takahashi said as quoted by Bisnis.com on Monday, March 28, 2016.
BPPT also expected Indonesian waters to be developed further. The agency said that cooperation between Japan and Indonesia could open up opportunities to bring prosperity to Indonesia and Japan.
