LAHORE: Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has presented a 5-point facilitation agenda aimed at getting full advantage of GSP Plus status to Pakistan by the European Union.
The 5-point agenda was presented by the Chairman PIAF Malik Tahir Javed while addressing a meeting of export related Standing Committee.
Chairman PIAF said that GSP Plus Status to Pakistan by the EU was a huge opportunity as Pakistan could easily achieve the mark of $100 billion as far as exports are concerned.
He said that it was a very good sign that 25% increase in export was already registered but we have to move through a well-planned strategy and an export target of $50 billion should be set for the first phase.
Malik Tahir Javed said that whole government machinery should play a role of facilitator for the export-oriented industries as red tapism and bureaucratic hurdles could impede the progress to this regard.
He said that government should give priority in electricity and gas supply to the export-oriented industries. He said that resolving of issues like energy shortage were must to boost the country’s exports. He also demanded that one percent duty on coal should be withdrawn as a large number of industrial units were using coal as fuel.
Chairman PIAF said that DTRE rules should be simple and easy for the exporters as complicated rules were creating a number of difficulties for them. He said that all those rules should be changed that are obstructing the export growth.
The PIAF Chairman said that the private sector would play its due role and extend its fullest support to the government for weeding out the menace of corruption.
Malik Tahir Javed also demanded of the Chairman TDAP to restore facility of freight subsidy in the larger interest of economy.
He said that PIAF 5-point facilitation agenda could give a jumpstart to the export.
