HYDERABAD: On the directions of Collector Dr. Sadiqullah Khan, Collectorate of Customs Regional office Sukkur seized 7.0 tons of smuggled betel nuts along with transporting vehicle worth Rs60 million.
Sources said Collector Dr. Sadiqullah Khan received credible information that smuggling of betel nuts concealed under fresh fruit will be attempted. Additional Collector Asim Rehman constituted a team under command of Assistant Collector Sukkur Tariq Hussain, which recovered 7.0 tons of betel nuts worth Rs60 million along with vehicle. The Collector appreciated the efforts of the staff.
Earlier on November 8, Collectorate of Customs Hyderabad has foiled a bid to smuggle contraband good by notorious smugglers and miscreants worth Rs36 million. Sources said that credible information was received by Collector Sadiqullah Khan that notorious smuggler Syed Israr Ahmed alias Laali khan had trying to transport cutch and Indian Gutka through 10 wheeler truck via Quetta to Mirpurkhas.
It is to mention that Collector Dr. Sadiqullah Khan directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law. Hyderabad Customs in its Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) have been successful in targeted raids against drugs and dumps of contraband goods.
