KARACHI: The Collector of Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, Mukarram Jah Ansari has taken immediate steps in order to remove the expected grid-lock of imported bulk consignments at Qasim International Containers Terminal (QICT), it is learnt here.
According to details, the Collector called on a meeting of the customs officers including additional collectors and deputy collectors in connection with seeking overall information of grounding and clearing the bulk consignments at QICT.
The Customs officers were briefed that the appraising officers and examiners are making sure that the consignments should be cleared within 24 hours after grounding, adding that they are also ensuring “zero-pendency” at the terminal in examining and clearing the consignments.
The Collector Mukarram Jah further asked the authorities concerned of the Collectorate to ensure smooth flow of clearance at terminal adding that daily report of clearance of the consignments should also be submitted, so that the performance of the officials should be reviewed.
The Collector Mukarram Jah Ansari further said that the Customs officers should also be remained in touch with the authorities concerned of terminal, so that timely action could be taken in any case of delay in clearance of the consignments.
It may be mentioned here that the delay in clearance of the imported consignments is being witnessed at QICT and in the backlash of the said delay; the Collector-Port Muhammad Bin Qasim was called on a meeting of the officers of his Collectorate.
