KARACHI: The Collector of Customs Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda has revealed that the Pakistan Customs has requested the Federal Interior Ministry to notify Customs as the main stream “Law Enforcing Agency”, as all over the world the Customs is one of the main agency which enforcing the law at coastline of the country.
Talking to Customs Today exclusively, the Collector Preventive S M Tariq Huda said that the Pakistan Customs is right now enforcing the law and taking actions against smuggling cartels at West and South borders of the city.
Responding to a query, the Collector said that the Pakistan Customs is currently facing shortage of man-power as well as the resources; adding that one of the main assets in the shape of anti-smuggling boat namely “Barbarossa” is already being non-operational for many years.
However; the federal government will handing over four new latest equipped anti-smuggling boats to the Pakistan Customs in the next six months or so and the process of procurement of those ships and other latest equipments have been started.
The Collector Preventive further asserted that the federal government has already issued Rs 250million during the fiscal year to the Pakistan Customs to improve the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of the Collectorate.
Replying to another query, S M Tariq Huda said that the Customs Preventive is being conducted record operations against the smuggling activities during the fiscal year of 2015-16 and have seized contraband items of worth Rs 16billion.
