KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of suspect namely Rozi Khan and sent back him to customs department, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 13,176 kilograms betel nuts.
On July 2, 2019, investigation office of the case produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on information, officials intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number: TPK-971 and asked them to checking.
He further submitted that during the search, prosecution recovered 13,176 kilograms betel nuts and other goods which were smuggled from Balochistan to Karachi for their illegal disposal. He argued that suspect was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after fulfillment of legal formalities, he was taken into custody and goods were also seized.
He argued that prosecution needs further investigation from him for arrest of owner of goods and other culprits, therefore, court may send him back to physical remand.
After the hearing, court send them back for physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
