KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent Syed Nasir, Faisal bin Suleman and Rashid Iqbal on physical remand until September 19, 2016 in a gold, currency and mobile phones smuggling case. The total worth of the seized items is Rs 30.3 million.
During the hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the court and informed that the suspects were arrested at the Karachi airport.
According to him, the customs authorities recovered pure gold chain (24-k) of 2,125 grams worth Rs 9.1 million from Rashid Iqbal and another pure gold chain (24-k) of 890 grams worth Rs 3.8 million from Syed Nasir.
He said that 122,500 Saudi riyals were recovered from Faisal bin Suleman while 235,000 Saudi riyals, 88,700 UAE dirham as well as Thai and Indonesian currency and mobile phones were recovered from Rashid Iqbal.
The investigation officer further informed the court that total worth of currency is Rs 17.2 million, total value of the gold chains is Rs 13.05 million and the value of mobile phones is over Rs 30 million.
He argued that three accused persons were smuggling these goods without paying duty and taxes therefore, after all formalities, these goods were seized and accused were taken in to custody.
FIR was lodged by complainant Muhammad Awais Shaikh Preventive Officer, JIAP, Karachi under relevant laws.
