RAWALPINDI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of heroin from Peshawar to Rawalpindi.
Sources said that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Asghar Khan received credible information regarding smuggling of heroin. The Customs I&I team comprising Superintendent Amir Khan which also includes Inspector Amir Khan, Inspector Mohammad Siddiuq, Hawaldar Riasat, Sepoys Kamran and Bial was constituted.
The Customs I&I team intercepted a Bedford truck bearing registration No. GLT 2849 which coming from Peshawar side but driver ignored the signal and speed up the vehicle whereas the accused indiscriminately opened fire on the staff of Directorate of Customs Intelligence Rawalpindi but no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, the accused fled the scene and the staff get the narcotics in there custody and shifted it to the state ware house.
The value of drugs in the international market is said to be thousands of millions of dollars the Director confirmed.
