LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) impounded huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs75 million.
Sources told Customs Today that seized goods belonged to notorious smuggler Haji Sadiq.
Sources said that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) received credible information about smuggling of goods. He immediately directed Additional Director Hasan Farid regarding movement of smuggled goods.
A team was constituted comprising Inspectors Allah Ditta, Asif Jhakkar, Gulzar Bhatti and Tipu to foil the attempt. Subsequently a container laden trailer was intercepted.
During detailed examination of the container led to recovery of 7.39 tons of velvet cloth, 4.3 tons of gents suiting wool and tropical cloth, 3.1 tons of curtain/poshish cloth and 8.4 tons of bed sheet/quilt printed fabrics.
Value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs75 million. Further investigations are underway till filing of this report.
