KARACHI: Pakistan Customs team deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) intercepted a passenger Zahid Khalil and recovered 136 carats precious diamonds worth Rs11 million.
Sources said that Additional Collector Yusuf Magsi received credible information regarding smuggling of gold and diamonds. He directed Deputy Collector Inamullah Wazir to take all necessary measures and enhance vigilance on international arrival lounge. The Customs team intercepted a passenger who was identified as Zaid Khalid and during thorough search recovered 136 carats of diamonds and a Rolex watch.
Sources said that during initial investigation it was revealed that his financier who was also travelling in the same flight has also been arrested. Both the accused are going to be presented before the judge for seeking remand. Further investigation is underway.
