ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Customs seized 4kg heroin from a UK-bound passenger at Islamabad Airport early on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, the accused passenger, Ismail who belongs to district Nowshera, was going to Birmingham, UK on PIA flight PK-791. The passenger has been arrested and an FIR has been lodged against him. The Customs authorities have registered a case against the accused and got four-day physical remand from the court.
The accused holds British passport. According to the details, AC Customs Airport Naveed Bugvi got information from his sources that a heroin smuggling bid would be made at the airport. On that, AC Customs alerted his staff. Ismael boarded late at his Birmingham, UK flight. Customs staff suspected him because boarding process has been completed at the flight and only Ismael was left to board the flight.
The accused Ismael was thinking that he would board the flight as soon as he gets in since boarding process had already been completed. Customs authorities searched his luggage and found heroine concealed in layers of wooden bag.
Talking to Customs Today, AC Customs Naveed Bugvi said that the accused showed extreme cleverness and chose the time when shifts of customs staff are changed at the airport. The Customs staff exposed his cleverness and foiled his bid to smuggle heroin to Europe.
The sources concerned said that during preliminary investigation, it has been found that no group is involved in his smuggling bid and it was solo flight of the accused.
