ISLAMABAD: A land mark event was arranged by Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement North on the World IP Day which is celebrated globally each year on 26th April.
The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to “raise awareness on impact of IPR on daily life” and “to celebrate creativity, and contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe.”
This year the Directorate General of IPR arranged a series of events to celebrate the World IP Day in this regards an exhibition of seized counterfeit items was inaugurated on 26th April 2021 at the Directorate of IPR Enforcement (North), Custom House.
Mirza Mubashir Baig, Director IPR Enforcement North and Kanwal Ali Additional Director Directorate of IPRE North gave a briefing on each case.
Besides Customs officers it was attended by media persons, journalists, people from academia and personnel from other law enforcement agencies.
The purpose of the exhibition was to create awareness on IP laws and to share the contribution of Directorate of IPR Enforcement North in implementing those laws within the region.
A large number of seized counterfeit items like shampoos, watches, cosmetics, insecticides, perfumes, bags etc were on display. The attendees of the exhibition greatly lauded the efforts of the Directorate of IPR North Islamabad.
Online Training on Counterfeit Medicines and Medical Devices the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement in collaboration with US Patents and Trademarks Organisation (USPTO) and Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) has successfully designed a virtual program expanding over several weeks on counterfeit medicines and medical devices. A total of 98 participants have been nominated from all over Pakistan Customs to attend this program, the participants include BS 16-20 officers of Pakistan Customs.
This is one of the largest group of online training participants arranged by Directorate of IPR Enforcement North.
Kanwal Ali Additional Director Directorate of IPRE North was nominated as the focal person for this training.
The first Module of the program was rolled out on 9th February 2021 through Webex and spanned over four weeks.
The participants learnt about the complex landscape of drugs supply chain, latest forensic techniques for identifying counterfeit medicines, the protocols followed by US authorities at import stage, the role of cyber intelligence in counterfeiting and other best practices to curb the influx of counterfeit drugs.
Module 2 of the training ended in April, 2021, It offered roundtable discussions involving experts from pharmaceutical industry and Drugs Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
The module provided an opportunity to participants from Pakistan Customs to interact and ask questions from relevant stake-holders.
Subsequently, Rabab Sikander DG IPR Enforcement also received a letter of acknowledgement and appreciation from Ameen Imam, Attorney Advisor, USPTO.
