DUBAI: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Thursday opened a representative office in Maputo, the third in Africa after the ones in Ethiopia and Ghana, the Chamber said in a statement. The statement said the office in Maputo would contribute to strengthening bilateral economic ties and, secondly, to increasing the confidence of investors in sectors with high potential in Mozambique, such as agriculture, power generation, tourism , transport and infrastructure.
After being received in an audience by Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, the President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Majid Saif Al Ghurair, said opening the office is a further step in strengthening economic cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Mozambique.
“Our interests in Mozambique mainly cover the agri-business sectors, transport and logistics and we believe that more Dubai companies will come to Mozambique because the business climate is promising, the country has a stable economy and is rich in resources,” said Majid Saif Al Ghurair. In 2015 UAE companies invested about US$1.476 billion in Mozambique, representing 39 percent of total foreign direct investment, after accounting for 30.7 percent in 2014.
