LAHORE: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman M Javed Ghani has assured Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry of amicable resolution of situation after the hike of valuation of used computers and laptop up to 70 to 700 percent.
The FBR chairman was talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mian Tariq Misbah on telephone on Friday over the sudden the hike in valuation ruling of old computers and laptops will be reviewed in best interest of the country.
The chairman FBR said that the Bord has always worked in the best interests of the country and the stakeholders.
However, the reservations of the traders would also be a dressed on priority basis as traders are the backbone of the economy, he added.
Earlier, in an emergent meeting with LCCI president Mian Tariq Misbah and Vice President Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry, Pakistan Used Computer Importers and Dealers Association Importers Association Hafiz Center has expressed grave concern over the uncalled for hike of 70 to 700 percent in the valuation of used computers and laptops.
The association representatives said that the used laptops and computers have have been fullfiling the need of poor and lower middle class of the country for a long time.
The delegation under the leadership of Hafiz Center President Malik Kaleem said that since the valuation has been raised many times for the used computers and laptops, it would be next to impossible for the users to purchase the machines as old and used computers and laptops would be equally costly.
They said that new computers and laptops have been catering the need of just 20 percent of the population as they are costly and unaffordable for the most people.
“If the government keep discouraging the use and old laptops and computers business the investors would be forced to shift their business to other countries,” they said.
Earlier, a considerable number of investors have shifted their business in Dubai or other parts of the world.
India has become one of the biggest country dealing in old and used computers, they informed, adding that Sharjah and Dubai are fast becoming used and old computers markets for Pakistani governments have been failing in provision of level playing field for the used and old computers and laptops business dealers. They urged the government to take the notice of the situation and address their issues.
On the occasion, the LCCI president assured the delegation of taking up the matter with the FBR and customs authorities at the earliest.
Waqas Arshad, Mansoor Alam and other importers were also present on the occasion.
