LAHORE: Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the date of filing returns up to 31” January 2021 without penalty in all the cases of individual/ AOP as well as in the cases of companies.
PTBA President Aftab Hussain Nagra, General Secretary Ferhan Shehazad and SVP Qari Habibur Rehman in a joint statement urged FBR chairman Mohammad Javed Ghani to extend date for filing of returns of income for tax year 2020 till 31 January 2021 as the PTBA along with affiliated tax bars of the country, as a part & parcel of the FBR are working hard for contributing towards national exchequer through filing of returns etc.
They said that at the very outset, it is intimated that PTBA is facing huge pressure from the member bars all over the country for extension in time for filing of income tax returns for tax year 2020. They said actually, the number of members of our affiliated bars could not file even extension applications of their clients (taxpayers) within time whereas the FBR to some extent given favor by allowing extension applications for 15 days to those taxpayers who could not file their income tax returns for tax year 2020 up to December 8, 2020, even for facilitation of the tax consultants and advisor special permission for filing of manual extension application in multiple clients (taxpayers) given by the Board is appreciable.
Here one thing is important to point out that income tax returns are still pending for submission in those cases where the taxpayers/ our members had already applied for extension due to the many issues like shortage of documents as well as the current situation of the county.
“Now, we would like to draw your attention towards the issues pertaining to wrong calculation of minimum tax liability by the system in the cases specially of importers as well as other cases where tax has already been deducted ws 153 etc. and is minimum tax for 2020 onwards which is one aspects due to which still number of returns are pending for submission.
No doubt your good-self is well aware of the fact that the new wave of COVID-19 which is also a main factor of delay in filing of income tax returns 2020 within due date as the 2 wave of the COVID-19 has adversely affected almost all the areas of the country,” the president said.
Without discussing the issues pertaining to income tax return, late publication of single pager return of income for manufacturers having turnover less than 50 million, PTBA would like to intimate that the Bars members are working hard day & night but they are still unable to complete their work during the extended time of 15 days and they are demanding more time for filing of income tax returns.
“You are also well aware of the fact that most of the members are currently busy in filing of sales tax returns for the month of 1 1/2020 even another burden is also pinching for the tax consultants advisors that date for filing companies income tax returns, is also very close i.e. 31” December 2020,” the office bearers explained. The PTBA asked the FBR chairman to extend the date of filing returns up to 31” January 2021 without penalty in all the cases of individual/ AOP as well as in the cases of companies.
They hoped the request for extension in date for filing of returns of income for tax year 2020 would be extended till 31 January 2021. Earlier the PTBA has also written a letter to the FBR chairman seeking extension in date of filing of income tax return for the tax year 2020.
