ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has devised a huge program for the capacity building of officers and staff members of Customs and Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS).
The basic objective of this huge program is to impart quality training and tax education in fiscal and economic management, to enhance professionalism, responsiveness, creativity, analytical capabilities, and intellectual integrity of all the stakeholders in a global perspective.
Moreover, to develop an empowered, motivated, client focused and efficient workforce, and to promote tax compliant culture through training, research and tax education to meet the new business challenges through improved professionalism, leadership, excellence, perseverance, commitment, innovation and Integrity.
“Currently two programs namely long term and short term, are under discussion for the capacity building of the concerned officers who are willing to improve their qualification” a well placed source at FBR told this scribe here on Thursday.
Under the long term capacity building program, well reputed national and international universities will be approached to get the required customized programs, courses and subjects incorporated in their curricular.
Capacity and curriculum of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, Bahria University, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and others are being analysed and reviewed by the concerned quarters of the FBR.
Similarly, London School of Economics (LSE), French HEC School of Management, Spanish University of Navarra, IESE Business School, American Harvard Business School and others are also in the run in this regard.
These institutions will be approached for inclusion of a special customized program for nominated and selected FBR officials. These programs will have special focus and designed for leadership skills, financial administration, business administration and relevant specialized areas.
FBR will select officials and staff members who will be willing to improve their educational qualification purely on the basis of merit of as well as willingness.
Moreover, deliberations are also underway for devising degree programs for officials having five to ten years’ service experience and willing to improve their qualification.
Customs and IRIS Wings have been issued directions for carry out an exercise to prepare a study program and selection of subjects in consultation with experts from academia and other relevant circles.
These programs will be totally funded by the FBR and Finance Minister has also assured to bear the expenditures for capacity building of FBR officials, however, financial assistance in the shape of scholarships and others will also be welcomed from the international donors in this connection.
Hopefully, FBR to sign MoU with these universities and officers with go on educating.. Assistance from any international donor will also be accepted in this regard.
