ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue has ordered Customs Collectorate Exports, Port Mohammad Bin Qasim to inquire that how two vehicles, including one seized vehicle loaded with the cigarette paper (5,620) kg belonged to M/s Sun Gravure, were managed to escape in the presence of Custom Preventive staff from the main gate of Export Processing Zone Karachi.
Sources told Customs Today that it has been revealed that Customs Collectorate Exports, Port Mohammad Bin Qasim, Karachi did not report fraudulent escape of goods and vehicles from the zone without payment of duty and taxes. The said vehicles escaped without any verification as preventive staff posted at the EPZ main gate neither checked the vehicles nor asked for customs documents.
Federal Board of Revenue directed the Collectorate that outcome of investigations and actual quantum of revenue loss due to frauds be intimated besides fixing of responsibility against the persons at fault.
It is important to mention here that according to the law and rules every collector is required to ensure personally that all cases of tax fraud and tax evasions of substantial amounts were to be reported without any lapse.
