LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue, Inland Revenue intelligence and Investigation wing, is going to start action against the sale of smuggled goods in local market. The FBR official here at RTO Lahore told Customs Today that intelligence officers would visit the market, super stores, shopping malls and all other shops to observe the trade of illegally imported goods like cigarettes, beverages, textile products etc. He informed that all preparations regarding the actions plan have been done.
He said that smuggled items will be seized and legal proceedings will be conducted against the accused. He further added that FBR staff has started to survey the markets of Lahore at the first stage. I&I wing of Lahore was determined to eliminated the trade of smuggled goods, he said.
On the other hand, traders and producers welcomed the FBR plan regarding the elimination of illegal trade of imported items. They said that FBR actions would help to save the local markets as the smuggled items are creating hurdles for local producers.
FBR officials also told that smuggled items not only hurt the traders but also create problems for FBR to achieve the set target of revenue. They added that no leniency will be shown against the culprits.
