KARACHI: The Collector of Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement-East, Najeebur Rehman Abbasi has made it mandatory for all importers and clearing agents to submit original Free Trade Agreement (FTA)/ Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) certificates at dedicated FTA counter of the Collectorate within three days from the date of release of the consignments in those cases where Goods Declaration under FTA/PTA claim filed by them is cleared through ‘Green Channel’.
A public notice No 9(2) MCC/Public Notice/06/365 issued by the collectorate further stated that the Goods Declaration would be re-assessed and recovery proceedings would be initiated forthwith in case of non-submission of FTA/PTA certificates by the importers and clearing agents.
FBR sources informed Customs Today that the said initiative has been taken by MCC Appraisement-East keeping in view the reports where importers claiming exemption from customs duty under FTA/PTA and have got their consignments cleared through Green Channel without fulfilling mandatory requirement of annexing FTA certificates to their GDs.
“The MCC Appraisement-East has issued the notification in order to comply with the legal requirements of claiming exemption from duty/taxes under FTA/PTA,” the sources added.
