SAN FRANCISCO: Uber has announced a new partnership with Samsung that should result in more usage of the service among owners of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge phones.
Owners of those phones in the U.S. can open up Galaxy Gifts offer widget, download Uber’s app, and find a $25 ride discount added to their accounts, Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen, vice president of mobile at Uber, wrote in a blog post on the news today.
“We are excited about the combination of Samsung’s reach and Uber’s global footprint in 300 cities across 56 countries that means riders around the world can get wherever they need to go, whenever they choose with the simple touch of a button,” Fjeldsoe-Nielsen wrote.
In the past, he wrote, Uber in the past has partnered with several other mobile service providers, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and O2 Telefonica.
San Francisco-based Uber has been focusing heavily on international growth, and deals like this can help bring in more business. The startup in January was reported to have picked up $1.6 billion in convertible debt from Goldman Sachs. Uber, faces competition from several companies, including Flywheel and Lyft.
