SIALKOT: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has recovered Rs 9.43 billion from both small and big defaulters in September.
According to GEPCO officials, they have recovered Rs 8.42 billion from the private sector while the government sector also deposited Rs 430 million in this regard.
GEPCO has also started a campaign to disconnect power connections of hundreds of consumers for not depositing dues worth Rs 350 million.
On the other hand, the perturbed consumers have also lodged their strong protests against GEPCO in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts against the overbilling and overcharging in the monthly bills. They alleged that the GEPCO officials were sending inflated bills to recover the dues. They said that GEPCO issued the inflated bills a day before the last due date, adding that the inflated power bills could not be rectified.
They said that GEPCO was earning millions of rupees every month by sending the inflated bills and this malicious practice was still going unchecked and unabated for the last several months.
