ISLAMABAD: Chairman Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, has urged the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government to sustain timely funding for scheduled completion of Gwadar port.
Expressing concerns over unsolicited forces endeavors to sabotage region’s key trading port, the chairman extended full support to the government, stating that with the Chinese cooperation and Pakistan government’s focused efforts, the Gwadar Port could fully be operational soon.
Talking to the Customs Today, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also stated that standing committee’s subsidiary body would visit to oversee Gwadar Port’s construction works and communication’s infrastructure in couple of weeks.
He said the body would also provide its findings and analysis about the proposed funding for the port completion and making it operational. The committee will see the matter in next meeting of standing committee in light of the submitted findings on the port’s affairs “, he added.
He also urged the government to revamp Karachi marine academy. He said Pakistan would need more trained and educated professional to handle mega projects like Gwadar port. Therefore, there is a dire need to revamp the academy which once had been one of the finest intuitions to train workforce for ports operations.
