HYDERABAD: Collectorate of Customs, Anti-Smuggling Organization has foiled a bid to smuggle betel nuts worth Rs10 million mear Jacobabad.
Sources said that Collector Dr. Sadiqullah Khan received credible information about smuggling of betel nuts. He directed Anti-Smuggling Organization to take all necessary measures to foil any attempt of smuggling. The Anti-Smuggling Organizations (ASO) deputed at Shaheed Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh Customs Check Post Jacobabad, intercepted a suspected Hino truck near Jacobabad apparently loaded with fresh Apples and recovered 210 wooden crates of betel (Arica) nuts weighing five tones approximately valuing Rs10 million.
The recovered betel nut filled crates were concealed underneath 500 crates of fresh apples and were being transported from Quetta towards Punjab under the garb of fresh fruits.
The smuggled/contraband betel nuts have been seized along with conveyance and two persons namely Hameedullah and Abdul Qudoos both residents of Quetta have been arrested. FIR is registered and further investigation is still underway.
