ISLAMABAD: The USAID attaches great importance to the development of Pakistan and that it will be bringing in investment to the tune of $43 million in energy sector in Pakistan.
USAID Assistant Administrator for AfPak Affairs Donald Larry Sampler stated this during a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar here. He was accompanied by US Ambassador in Pakistan Richard G Olson.
Talking to the visitors, Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar reiterated the government resolve to rehabilitate all the people Internally displaced (IDPs) by the ongoing war on terror.
He said that once the damage and needs assessment estimates were finalized after operation Zarb-e-Azb was over, a clear picture would emerge on the actual requirements for the rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
The minister said the government intended to carry out rehabilitation work in a centralized and focused manner with complete oversight mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability.
He welcomed the USAID initiative for the rehabilitation activities in Waziristan area in future. There was also detailed discussion on USAID development projects in Pakistan.
The finance minister also briefed the USAID senior representative about the recent visit of the Afghan president to Pakistan saying “it went very well.”
On the occasion, both sides agreed on early completion of projects undertaken by Pakistan in Afghanistan besides having talks on future cooperation. Adviser to Finance Division Rana Asad Amin and other officials of the ministry also attended the meeting.
