NEW DELHI: After India received normal monsoon after two years of drought, a healthy crop yield is expected. The April-September period in this financial year saw an import of 3.58 million tonne (MT) of diammonium phosphate (DAP). The average cost and freight to India for DAP imports increased from $179 per tonne during 2000-01 for 861,000 tonne to $496 per tonne during 2010-11 for 7.4 MT.
India has limited availability of low-grade phosphatic, used in production of DAP, and 90% of domestic consumption s met through imports.
