DUBLIN: Around 88lbs (40 kilos) of the Class A drug were discovered when Border Force officers stopped and searched a Lithuanian-registered HGV at the Port of Dover in Kent.
The drug was found within the bodywork of the lorry on May 27 after it had arrived at the port on a ferry from Calais.
The 34-year-old Lithuanian driver, Edvinas Janusauskas, was arrested and the investigation passed to the National Crime Agency.
He was later charged with the attempted importation and appeared before Dover Magistrates’ Court and no plea was entered.
Janusauskas was remanded in custody and will next appear at Canterbury Crown Court on June 15.
