WASHINGTON: Kazakhstan, being vegetable oil net importer several years ago, became a net-exporter again. Exports from Kazakhstan were not very high, as the main goal of the country was saturation of the domestic market with its own sunflower oil. Gradually, sunflower oil exports from Kazakhstan began to increase. China is one of the most promising markets for the Kazakh oil.
In 2014/15 MY Kazakhstan exported slightly more than 28 KMT of sunflower oil, of which only 3.2 KMT were shipped to China. In the current season more than half of Kazakh sunflower oil exports was supplied to China (6.7 KMT from 12 KMT during January-September 2015/16 MY).
As it was previously reported, 2 KMT of sunflower and rapeseed oils were exported for the first time from the station Dostyk of Almaty region to the province of the People’s Republic of China Shaanxi. This pilot project of «Total Impex» company will allow to not only work out the logistics, but also become some kind of indicator and an example for the Chinese business community.
About 20-40 containers of oil will be shipped in the short term. In addition, the opening of new oilseeds crushing plant with a capacity of 40-100 KMT per year is planned in the North Kazakhstan region.
