KOHAT: Deputy Collector Customs station Kohat Mehmood Khayal has said that that anti-smuggling squad seized smuggled crushed betel nuts Concealed under mineral coal dust worth Rs44 million.
Sources told Customs Today that an information was shared by the Additional Collector Muhammad Khayal that an attempt of smuggling of foreign origin betel nut from Daraban Quetta Road towards Punjab.
Following the information the Deputy Collector Kohat formed anti smuggling organization squad and established check post at DDK bridge t, the squad signaled and stop a suspicious truck having registration no: SEA-216 model 1991 which was appearing loaded with dust coal.
The Customs squad made thoroughly checking of the stopped 10 wheeler truck where they found huge quantity of betel nuts concealed under the mineral coal dust, the squad asked the driver of vehicle to provide if got any genuine proof, but all in vain, after that the squad seized the vehicle and bring it in to the Customs House Kohat.
The deputy Ccllector informed that the vehicle and goods have sealed and further investigation is under way, he added that total quantity of seized crushed betel nuts is 530 bags equaling to 15600 kilograms having market value Rs39 million.
The Hino truck registration bearing registration no: SEA-216 model 1991 was also seized under u/s 157 of Customs Act 1969 having market value Rs.5 millions, the total value of case is approximately Rs44 million.
