SEREMBAN: The Seremban district narcotics crime investigation department arrested two men and seized RM10,000 worth of heroin yesterday.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Zaki Harun police had approached a Proton Saga in which two suspects were travelling in at the Seremban/Labu toll plaza at 4pm. “After an inspection, police found a brown-colour bag containing one 520g transparent packet filled with white powder believed to be heroin.
“Police believe this is the first time the duo ferried the drugs from the Klang Valley into the state for the local market,” he told a press conference at the district police station, here today. Zaki said the suspects, aged 30 and 20, also tested positive for methamphetamine.
“The suspects were arrested under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in dangerous drugs and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for taking drugs.”
In a separate case, he said another narcotics team raided a house in Ampangan and arrested a 23-year-old man for ketum possession.
He said the self-employed suspect was caught red-handed at his rental house. “The suspect was processing the ketum leaves when the team arrived at his house. The seizure included 29 packets of ketum water and 5.1kg of fresh ketum leaves. “It is believed that the suspect started his activities about three months ago and he distributed primarily to locals as well as some foreign workers who worked at restaurants. “Police will continue to trace other syndicates that have been distributing the ketum in the state as preliminary investigations revealed that the leaves were smuggled into Negri Sembilan from other states,” he said. He added the case was being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 which carries a sentence of up to four years jail or a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
