ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain highlight that maintainable energy production system is a precondition for socio-economic development and the government is taking effectual actions to make sure continued, secure, clean, reasonable and friendly environment energy in the country.
International Conference on Energy Systems and Policies tackling the opening ceremony of (ICESP) at Air University, the President said the government was aware of the scale of the problem of energy shortage. He said energy was the lifeline of a national economy. The shortage of energy in Pakistan, he added, had not only adversely affected the life of common man but also hindered the economic development of the country.
President said shortage in energy generation and its management affected national development programmes causing serious setbacks to economic and social development. The President stressed concerted initiatives to address this issue of national importance and attain energy security. He also underscored the need to initiate national awareness programmes regarding energy conservation and its efficient use for optimal utilisation of energy resources.
At the end He expressed that the hope recommendation and suggestions of the conference from domestic and foreign experts would further assist in finding practical solutions for addressing this vital energy issue. The President appreciated Air University for organizing the conference and deliberating upon a topic that was of utmost importance to Pakistan and expressed confidence that the conference would serve to improve public awareness on the energy issue.
Tahir Rafique Butt Chief of the Air Staff said the energy problems of the country needed to be resolved. The Air Chief, who is also the Chairman of Board of Directors of Air University, stressed that solution lies in the conservation, management and generation of energy in an effective manner.
Chairperson Higher Education Commission Professor Mukhtar said the country was facing the challenges of energy, shortage of water and food security which needed to be managed on urgent basis. He said universities were being involved in seeking solutions to the energy-related issues and mentioned that the Air University was working in collaboration with other universities on the matter.
