KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to complete investigations against partners of M/s M. Nazeer M. Rahim & Co, in a case of gross mis-declaration of description, value & classification and evaded amount of duty and taxes worth Rs4,225,802.
On 23 September 2020, investigation officer of Customs Appraisement & Facilitation Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ) submitted first information report (FIR) against the above mentioned suspect company and informed the court that during investigation, date retrieved from the WeBoc system indicates that two consignments of same description imported from Korea have also been got released previously by the same importers therefore the same will be thoroughly investigated as well.
He further submitted that the clearing agent scanned the import documents provided by the importer on the basis of which declaration was made however his role in crime will thoroughly be investigated, hence the importers M/s M. Nazeer M. Rahim & Co attempted to clear the goods attracting higher value and taxes under the garb of iron steel remeltable scrap.
Investigation officer stated that this case of gross mis-declaration if gone undetected would have deprived government exchequer to the tune of Rs4,225,802.
He stated that it has been established without any shadow of doubt that above the mentioned importers have indulge in deliberate and mala-fide mis-declaration of description and quantity of actual goods in violated section 32 (1) & (2) 79 & 192 of the income tax ordinance, 2001 punishable under clauses (14), (45), (86) of section 156 (1) of the customs act, 1969 and allied laws.
After the hearing, court taken first information report on record and directed him to complete investigation and submit progress report.
