LAHORE: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought comments from the tax department on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Rana Enterprises, seeking release of their consignment of artificial leather seized by the customs authorities.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Irfan Sadat Khan, heard the petition. During the hearing, counsel for the customs department filed power and sought time to file para-wise comments, therefore, the court adjourned the matter for June 21, 2017.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner imported a consignment of artificial leather having a quantity of 26950 kilograms dated May 26, 2017 which was selected for examination and during examination, customs authorities alleged that petitioner in involved in mis-declaration and show cause notice was issued to the petitioner without any lawful authority.
Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs, Model Customs Collectorate West and Additional Collector of Customs Adjudication, Customs House Karachi as respondents, he pleaded the court may direct them to release its consignment immediately.
