MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) foiled an attempt of smuggling hashish under the grab of apples near Dera Ghazi Khan.
Sources said that Collector Imran Ahmad Chaudhry directed Assistant Collector Tanvir Ahmad for strict enforcement in the jurisdiction to foil smuggling attempts. Assistant Collector tightens monitoring of suspected routes and initiated patrolling in the strategic routes of Multan Muzaffargarh by comprising special team including Superintendent Habib-ur-Rehman, Inspector Waqas Leghari, Inspector Muhammad Ansar and others.
Anti-smuggling squad has conducted patrolling of suspected routes and intercepted a truck which was loaded with huge quantity of Apples. During close examination of suspected truck, Customs found huge quantity of hashish placed under the bottom of apples.
Sources informed Customs Today that said hashish was smuggled under garb of apples. The en-route movement was closely monitored from Dera Ghazi Khan to thwart attempt of smuggling.
Multan Customs has estimated that the seized hashish could have potentially produced 2.5 metric tonnes of synthetic drug, which according to UNODC survey report has an international market value of millions. Multan Customs has detained driver and two other persons along with recovered goods and started investigation against smuggling of Hashish
This unprecedented operation has successfully averted the illicit movement of Millions of US Dollars from going into the hands of criminal syndicates. The seizure has immense international impact and .shows Pakistan’s commitment with the charter of FATF. Further actions were under process.
