MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized foreign origin ceramic tiles worth Rs1.5 along with truck valuing Rs3.5 millions in their action.
According to details, Collector Ambreen Ahmad Tarar received credible information from her source that a truck loaded with imported ceramic tiles will transport huge quantity of ceramic tiles in Multan which was coming through Dera Ghazi Khan region. Collector directed anti-smuggling squad to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman constituted special squad to carry out action against them and Inspector Muhammad Altaf Kareem, Ayyaz Mahmud and other took part in the anti-smuggling action.
Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization took special measures for the recovery of ceramic tiles and started patrolling on the different suspected routes of Multan by enhancing monitoring of the movement of goods to intercept goods.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted truck near Sher Shah bypass and recovered huge quantity of ceramic tiles. Customs teams found that recovered ceramic tiles was Iranian origin.
Multan Customs staff asked the driver of the truck to produce legal documents of recovered ceramic tiles but they failed to produce any import documents of the recovered tiles to justify their legal possession. Customs anti-smuggling squad seized almost 3780 square feet ceramic tiles which were packed in the 2090 different cartons during their action by framing seizure report under Customs Act 1969.
The value of seized ceramic tiles was Rs.1.5 million. Further investigation is still going on till the filing of this report.
