MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E& C) seized a consignment of foreign irigin cloth worth Rs.70.06 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Imran Ahmad Chaudhry received credible information e that huge consignment of smuggled cloth will be transported from Sadiqabad. Collector directed Additional Collector Shafiq-ur-Rehman to foil any attempt of smuggling from Rahim Yar Khan.
Additional Collector formed special team because of credible information which comprised of Inspectors and others who took immediate action against smuggled goods. Customs anti-smuggling Sadiqabad squad enhanced patrolling on various suspected routes to thwart any attempt of smuggling. Customs squad intercepted suspected container near Kot Samaaba Rahim Yar Khan which were loaded with huge quantity of cloths during examination.
The recovered curtain cloths were packed in the different rolls. Smugglers were used to supply these smuggled Curtain cloths to different retailers of Punjab. Multan Customs also called local police at the spot to avoid any clash during action.
Customs teams recovered almost 800 rolls of curtain cloths and their net weight was almost 28.4 tons. Anti-Smuggling team has shifted said Curtain cloths in state warehouse Customs after their action. Additional Collector supervised the whole operation.
The values of seized goods were almost Rs.70.06 million along with vehicle and duty taxes of Rs.18.99 million. The net value of seized curtain cloths was almost Rs.59.38 million. Customs teams started investigation against recovered curtain cloths for further action and further investigations against owner of curtain cloths are still under process for legal action.
