MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation have intercepted a container fully loaded with re-meltable waste scrap near Sahiwal. The net values of the estimated seized scrap were Rs3.6 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Saeed Ahmad Wattoo received said information and formed special field intelligence team to foil any attempt of smuggling. The field intelligence unit of Multan region deployed staff at various strategic routes to foil the attempt of smuggling.
During strict monitoring and patrolling of Customs I&I team intercepted the container bearing registration number TAL-626/ near the Sahiwal region. The driver provided the documents to customs Intelligence staff which were found fake during verification process.
Customs Intelligence teams recovered foreign origin re-melt able waste scrap along with container in the operation. The total weight of the foreign origin scrap was found 28.90 metric tons after examination of the container goods. During preliminary investigation, Customs Intelligence found that said shipment was belong to M/s Ejaz Brothers Steel Funas, Gujranwala & others.
The recovered remeltable waste scrap used in the manufacturing of various goods due to remeltable feature and it is consumed in the manufacturing of many iron products in the local industry.
Customs intelligence and Investigation seized the container by forming seizure report of the container. Further action was still under process.
