ISLAMABAD: A summary has been forwarded to the Federal Cabinet to approve Ms. Nausheen Javed Amjad as new chairperson of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The government will take the final decision after approval by the federal cabinet under Supreme Court’s judgment dated 18-8-2016 passed in civil appeals No. 1428/2016 and 1436/2016.
According to details, the government is searching for the new Chairman FBR and Selection Committee for selection of senior officers has recommended Ms. Nausheen Javed Amjad as new Chairperson of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). She is a Grade-22 officer of the Inland Revenue Services (IRS) and currently posted as Member Admin (FBR).
Chartered Accountant Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi was appointed as Chairman FBR for a period of two years on honorary/pro bono basis, vide the Establishment Division’s notification dated 9-5-2019.
In views of the above, the Establishment Division proposes the following:
- The honorary/pro bono basis appointment of Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi as Chairman FBR may be terminated with immediate effect.
- Nausheen Javed Amjad presently posted as Member Admin (FBR) may be transferred and appointed/posted as chairperson FBR.
Prime Minister Imran Khan as Minister Incharge for Establishment Division has seen and authorized placement of this summary before the Federal Cabinet for approval.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the absence of the former FBR chief Shabbar Zaidi, Ms. Nausheen Javed had taken charge as acting chair of the revenue body back in February. Ms Nausheen, who is from Inland Revenue Services, was performing as the acting chief of the tax collection authority since Zaidi went on leave for indefinite period due to his illness.
