PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation team seized 16 kilogram of foreign origin opium and chars worth Rs18.7 million.
Deputy Director Rashid Habib told Customs Today that information was received that a Suzuki Mehran motor car will be tried to smuggle foreign origin narcotics from Peshawar side to Punjab. He said that information was forwarded to Additional Director Faysal Bokhari who formed a anti smuggling squad under supervision of Deputy Director I&I Peshawar.
The Customs I&I squad made a naka bandi at Sawabi motorway interchanged and signal to the required Suzuki Mehran motor car bearing registration No. LE-17-9664 to stop, but the driver ignore and speed up the vehicles but after a long chasing by the staff of Customs I&I, the drive left the vehicle at road side and fled away.
The I&I Peshawar anti smuggling squad get the vehicle into custody and made through checking of the vehicle and found 7 packets of foreign origin opium and 7 packets of chars which was tactfully concealed in side doors of vehicle, it told that the vehicle bring to the I&I headquarter where quantity of seized heroin measured and found that total quantity of narcotics is (8600 grams opium and 8000 grams chars).
The Deputy Collector told that both (vehicle and heroin) took in custody and seized, he added that total value of seized goods is estimated in worth of Rs18.7 million (Rs10.32 million opium, Rs.8 million chars and Rs.0.7 million vehicle) the FIR has been launched against unknown smugglers while case has registered under Customs Act 1969 and further investigation is under way.
