KARACHI: Pakistan-Malaysia Business Council (PMBC) has urged establishment of direct shipping link and increase in frequency of air services between Pakistan and Malaysia for progress of bilateral trade between the two countries.
This was said in a meeting of Board of Directors of PMBC. The Board desired that Malaysian Shipping Corporation should collect cargo from Karachi and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation should extend its services to ports in Malaysia.
PMBC Chairman Bashir Jan Muhammad presided the meeting. It was also attended by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Zubair Ahmed Malik along with leading businessmen.
The council also took note of the fact that since there were no direct flights from Karachi to Kuala Lumpur except one or two PIA flights, the country’s perishable goods like fruits and vegetables were not being exported in commercial quantities.
Exporters of fruits and vegetables emphasized the need for frequent direct flights from Karachi to Kuala Lumpur. The meeting decided to approach Malaysian Airlines and PIA to increase their flights as there was lot of traffic available besides a large number of tourists also visited Malaysia from Pakistan.
