LISBON: Portugal telecom’s operating revenue decreased by 4.1% to €2.4 billion in 2014. The operator said that this was less than the market contraction of 4.8 percent. On a consolidated basis, revenues amounted to EUR 2.7 billion and EBITDA reached EUR 1.05 billion, equivalent to a margin of 38.7 percent.
In a statement to the stock market, the operator said it reinforced its leadership in the multi-play market with a share of 44 percent in 2014, 6 percentage points more than the next competitor. In the fixed segment, Meo remained leader in the broadband and voice markets with shares of 49 percent and 54 percent, respectively, while in the mobile market Meo was also first with 8 million customers, equivalent to a 47 percent share. Contributing to the result was the increase in the number of post-paid customers, representing 49 percent of the total mobile segment, an increase of 12 percentage points over the previous year. In the TV sector, the only segment where the operator is not in first place, its share strengthened to 42 percent, after growing its base by 7.4 percent in 2014.
