DOHA: The General Authority of Customs (GAC) has launched a disaster recovery site in co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and an IT company.
The site will serve as a back-up for the continuity of service under the Al Nadeeb system in case of service disruptions due to natural or other disasters, according to a statement, which notes that the GAC is the first government body to execute this project with the help of the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
“Al Nadeeb is the single-window electronic clearance system of the Customs authority. The Disaster Recovery Programme (DRP) is an important achievement considering that the authority has massive customer data in its system since the launch of Al Nadeeb.
For example, it has about 4mn Customs declarations while the number of Customs clearance agents recorded in the system is more than 1,600,” the statement noted.
The launch of the Al Nadeeb system has succeeded in providing round-the-clock Customs clearance services to clearance agents, public and private institutions and other customers from any location in the world, electronically, significantly reducing the time and effort need to carry out Customs transactions, the GAC said.
The DRP’s launch comes as part of the Customs authority’ ongoing efforts to upgrade the system.
“The project will be a boon for customers, too, as a disaster recovery programme has become an essential component for any company or organisation because losing data can cause a real disaster if there is no retrieval system,” the statement added.
