QUETTA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation I(I&I) has seized huge quantity of smuggled goods during two Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) and lodged two separate FIRs against accused persons.
Sources told that Director Muhammad Ismail received credible information about smuggling of goods. He immediately directed Deputy Director Amjad Hussain Rajpar to enhance vigilance on the suspected routes.
A team comprising Intelligence Officers Muhammad Shabbir Khan, Hamid Habib and Sepoys was constituted to intercept the truck. The anti-smuggling squad intercepted the suspected truck near Air Port Road Quetta.
The truck was loaded miscellaneous goods. On query, the driver produced the Custom GDs, which had already been used by them. The cross stamps of Custom check posts were on face of GDs.
The value of the seized goods including spices and spare parts along with the transporting vehicles comes to Rs16.35 million. An FIR is lodged and investigations are underway.
During another operation, Customs I&I team recovered 28.24 tons of smuggled betel nut from a Hino truck. The value of the seized goods along with transporting truck comes to Rs62.49 million. An FIR is lodged and investigations are underway till filing of this report.
