BRUSSELS: The food import embargo Russia has imposed against countries that sanctioned it is a disaster for French farmers, France’s Member of the European Parliament Edouard Ferrand told Sputnik.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Union, the United States and its allies imposed sanctions in Russia for its alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis. The allegations have been refuted by Russia.
The EU proposes only 125 million euros [$137 million] to support the European horticulture sector, but the Russian embargo affects all the French agricultural products; its actions are catastrophic here,” Ferrand, a member of both the National Front party and the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee in the European Parliament, told Sputnik.
According to the parliamentarian, fruit prices in France have slumped by 12 percent since 2013, while vegetables saw a 12-percent price drop. The dairy sector has also been affected.
