KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan would be the chief guest at the groundbreaking ceremony of Eduljee Dinshaw Road Project today (Tuesday).
The road, opposite to the Customs House, is a busy thoroughfare located in the old Karachi. Besides housing the Old Customs and the New Customs House building the road is also lined by buildings of the past many of which are still being used commercially. Due to the proximity with Karachi Port there are many warehouses along and off the road as well as offices of customs agents.
Named as a tribute to one of the most renowned philanthropist, Eduljee Dinshaw (died 1914) of the pre-Partition, the road has been deprived of the much-needed repair and maintenance work for the last many years.
On Monday, the security was beefed up around the Customs House with dozens of Customs officials on both sides of the road. The motorcycle parking along the road in front of the Customs House was closed and the motorcyclists were directed by the customs officials to get their vehicles parked on the premises of the paid parking lot.
The ceremony is scheduled to be held at 5pm today.
