KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Saturday directed the investigation officer, Akbar Ahmed, to file complete addresses of the suspects, Haji Badal Jaan and Abdul Malik, allegedly involved in smuggling of Iranian diesel.
According to the prosecution, both the suspects were involved in the smuggling of 45,600 liters diesel and 6000 kgs bitumen. During the hearing, Ahmed asked the court for time to file the addresses on which the court adjourned the hearing for September 19, 2016. The court had already convicted Khudadad and Amanullah in the case.
After their conviction, Khudadad and Amanullah had asked the customs court to order the Anti-Smuggling Organization to return their national identity cards, mobile phones and driving licenses which were seized by the officials at the time of arrest. Advocate of both the accused also filed an application, asking the customs court to return the national identity cards, mobile phones and their driving licenses.
According to the prosecution, on May 19, 2016 both accused were intercepted by the staff of the Anti-smuggling Organization NMB Wharf, Karachi near check point, along with oil tanker Hino, 500 ( EUR 02 ) loaded with HSD 45600 liters and bitumen 6000 kgs for its illegal disposal in open market.
FIR was registered against the arrested and absconding accused persons by the Anti-smuggling Organization under an offence punishable under section 156 (1) (8) (89) of the Customs Act, 1969.
