WASHINGTON: Spanish exports of defence, security and potential dual use materiel registered a year on year increase of 16.1% in 2015 to EUR3.72 billion according to the annual report released by the Secretariat of State for Trade.
While still below the record figure of EUR3.9 billion set in 2013, the figures highlight a marked recovery from the 18% fall suffered in 2014 and the ever growing significance of the aeronautical sector which accounted for 85.6% of last year’s total. The country has the final assembly plants for the Airbus Defence & Space transport division and much of the national increase is attributed to deliveries of the A400M heavy airlifter and the A330 Multi Role Tanker transport (MRTT) from the Seville and Getafe factories respectively.
