TORKHAM: The expansion project of Torkam Port is in full swing and during next two years Torkham is going to be a big hub of exports and imports.
These views were expressed by Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, Director General Customs Transit Trade, was awarded a warm welcome on the occasion of his visit to Torkham Customs station.
Talking to Customs Today the Director General, Customs Transit Trade said that one of the reasons for the decline in transit through Torkham was that transit trade also started through other border crossings like Ghulam Khan and few other passages to Afghanistan as well as one other reason to decline in transit trade is the change of government in Afghanistan, which has led to breakdowns in the banking system.
Director General said that the work on the expansion project of Torkham Port is in full swing and in next two years the Torkham Port will become a huge commercial and business hub, he added that during a meeting with agents attached to Torkham Customs Transit he said that he would talk to the concerned authorities of Pakistan and Afghanistan on bringing back the empty containers and provide relief to the customs agents involved in transit trade as much as possible.
Arbab Qaiser, Director, Customs Transit Peshawar and Amanat Khan, Deputy Director, Torkham Customs were also present on the occasion.
