HANOI: Vietnam in cooperation with Japan has launched an electronic customs clearance system. The country hopes to reduce costs and improve the business environment by making trade procedures more efficient.
By shifting to a paperless system, the issue of opaque commission fees for businesses is also expected to be solved. Trade has surged for Vietnam since it joined the World Trade Organization in 2007.
After the number of import and export declarations in 2010 increased to 4.16 million from 1.16 million in 2002, Vietnam sought Japanese support in promoting efficient customs clearance.
